Cy Schwieterman Inc.

SINCE 1946 DRAINAGE SOLUTION IS OUR BUSINESS

Cy Schwieterman, Inc. (CSI) started as a family business in 1946 Cy Schwieterman began installing drain tiles with his father, Ed in southern Mercer and northern Darke counties from their Burkettsville family farm with a 1920 Buckeye #1 digging machine with road speed of 1.5 miles per hour.

In 1950 Cy married his wife Merdella and moved the drainage operation to our present location at the intersection of Cranberry and Reier Roads just north of the St. Francis Church in Cranberry.

By the late 60's and early 70's Cy was running 5 Speicher wheel machines and backfillers that were manufactured in Celina, Ohio. Once corrugated plastic tubing and the laser for grade control were introduced, systematic tilling started to become more popular. CSI expanded operations to include installing sewage systems. A wheel machine was purchased to install large tile mains up to 30" in diameter. The company was incorporated in 1962. Cy's children Mike, Jerry, Dave, and Joyce joined the business.

In the 1980's CSI purchased two drainage plows which were equipped to knife in the pipe instead of the traditional open trench method. Two regional satellite operations were opened in Arcanum, Ohio and Wapakoneta, Ohio. Excavating equipment was purchased to expand our capabilities to include open ditch construction, land clearing, and fence row removal.

From 1992 to the present -- Cy retired from CSI. In his business, Cy dedicated most of his life for the conservation of the soil and water in Ohio and through out the United States. Cy's grandsons Brad Gerlach, Brent Schwieterman and Doug Schwieterman joined the operations. Two pans were added to construct waterways, lagoons and building pads. CSI currently uses RTK GPS technology for topographical data collections, tile mapping, tile installation and excavation.

CSI is a member of the National Land Improvement Contractors of America (LICA) and it chapters from Ohio and Indiana.

CSI attributes its success to its great customer base and employees that work with us. Half of our employees have worked for CSI 10 years or more. This has proven to be essential for us to ensure a high quality of work. CSI services a ten county region of western Ohio and eastern Indiana. We look forward to meeting new customers and a continued relationship with past customers.
