ABOUT US

Cy Schwieterman, Inc.

Since 1946 drainage solutions is our business

Cy Schwieterman and his father, Ed Schwieterman, founded Cy Schwieterman, Inc (CSI) in 1946 from their Burkettsville family farm with a 1920 Buckeye wheel machine that had a road speed of 1.5 miles per hour.

In 1950, Cy married his wife, Merdella, and moved the drainage operation to our present location at the intersection of Cranberry & Reier Road in Saint Henry.

In the late 1960’s & early 1970‘s, Cy & Merdella’s children, Mike, Jerry, Dave and Joyce, joined the family business. The business began to grow with running 5 Speicher Wheel Machines that were manufactured in Celina, Ohio. Once corrugated plastic tubing and the laser for grade control were introduced, systematic tiling started to become more popular. A wheel machine was purchased to install large tile mains up to 30” in diameter and CSI also began installing sewage systems.

In the 1980’s, Cy Schwieterman, Inc. transitioned from the open trench method to utilizing drainage plows to knife in pipe. CSI opened two satellite locations with Mike in Arcanum, Dave in Wapakoneta with Cy, Jerry and Joyce remaining in St Henry. CSI also expanded into excavation with the capabilities to include open ditch construction, land clearing and fence row removal.

In 1992, Cy Schwieterman retired from the business after dedicating most of his life to the conservation of the soil and water in Ohio and through out the United States.

In the late 1990’s and 2000s, Cy’s grandsons Brad Gerlach, Brent Schwieterman, Doug Schwieterman and Scott Schwieterman joined the operations. Over the years, Cy Schwieterman Inc, has expanded their drainage and excavation operations by adding plows, wheel machines’ pans and various other equipment. CSI currently utilizes GPS technology for topographical data collection, tile mapping, tile installation and excavation.

Cy Schwieterman, Inc attributes its success to strong family values, a great customer base and most importantly our employees that have worked with us over the years. Over half our employees have been with us for over 10 years and we are so grateful to have them. They have proven to be essential for us to ensure a high-quality job completed.
